CASSIS (an acronym for Creator Actress Singer SISters), now know as sherry, is an all-female J-Pop group created by LDH in collaboration with the record label Pony Canyon. Their music style combined disco music with dance and R&B.

CASSIS was managed by LDH from 2007 to 2008 until the group was dropped by their initial record label.

History[]

2007-2008[]

CASSIS was formed through an audition held jointly by the record label Pony Canyon Music and entertainment production company LDH, to form a Euro-dance based female dance and vocal unit.[1][2] Ultimately, they debuted as a 6-member group with KUROKI (Kuroki Haruka, she lost the right to go under her first name against the group’s other Haruka in a rock-paper-scissors game), HARUKA (Kataoka Haruka), MAMI (Goto Mami), YUKO (Saito Yuko), SAYURI (Yamamoto Sayuri) and HOTARU (Suzuki Hotaru) on August 17, 2007, under the record label Pony Canyon with the single "LOVE AUTOMATIC", its title track being a cover of the European dance hit "AUTOMATIC" by EliZe.[1] In addition to releasing music as a group, each of the six members would show their own individuality and be involved in multiple activities as models, actresses, and fashion leaders.[2]

After the group released their 2nd single "Magic C" on November 21, 2007,[3]  they were dropped from Pony Canyon and parted from LDH.

In May 2008, MAMI left the group.

2009[]

After leaving LDH, CASSIS signed with UNIVERSAL MUSIC JAPAN and changed their name to "sherry" on January 1.

On April 22, 2009, they released a techno-dance cover of Dragon Ball’s ending song "Romantic Ageru yo" (ロマンティックあげるよ) as the title track of their 3rd single.[4]

In December, two more members left: YUKO and SAYURI.

2010-2014[]

In 2010, the 3 remaining members signed with Anchor Records and released their 4th single "Shinalize" on July 28, followed by their 5th single "FIRST ONE" on December 1. [5]

On August 1, 2012, they released the digital single "Post Post".[5] However, the group never succeeded in hitting the charts. In May of 2013, HOTARU also left the group, with only KUROKI and HARUKA remaining.[6]

In August 2014, the two remaining members started promoting as members of the dance and vocal group "BeBeeLand" too, having a concurrent position in this group and sherry.[7][8]

2016[]

On March 29, the duo released their sixth single "PRIDE".
